NIK NAK SHED

Established in 1999, the NicNak Shed is Port Douglas’ one-and-only Op Shop with an eclectic selection of goods donated by local residents and businesses.
Monies raised by The NicNak Shed go directly back into the local community to help with funding of Port Douglas Community Service Network via the Emergency Relief Programme and by supplying emergency clothing, bedding, and furniture to those in need.

CAFE ONE

Café One is a local social enterprise, supported by Mission Australia, to encourage people in the community to access work experience, employment opportunities and gain their Certificate I in Hospitality. Based out of Douglas House and operating out of a mobile coffee van Café One offers a safe and supportive environment for people from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to develop their skills and confidence to enter the workforce. Our Trainees commit to a 24 week paid Traineeship 4 days a week and can expect encouragement, guidance and respect throughout their learnings.
Café One delivers flexibility of service being able to attend local events, community activities and celebrations with our Trainees gaining hands on experience in Barista, Retail and Hospitality Industries along with Community Engagement and Event Management. Café One charges a flat fee of $300 to attend an event which includes 50 FREE coffees. For larger events other options are available. The Café One coffee van is available 7 days a week, subject to availability.

Since its beginnings 33 years ago, Whitsunday Community Services Inc has grown into an organisation that provides support programs for people who are experiencing disadvantage or are vulnerable due to poverty, low income, deprivation, capabilities and social exclusion; people who are experiencing homelessness, mental health conditions, separation, divorce, domestic violence and/ or crisis; and people based in rural and remote areas located within the 4800-4802 postcodes.

The Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre has become a place where people can come together and tap into their community, creating a strong neighbourhood and hub of community activity.

Residents can access opportunities to enhance their health, social, educational and economic well-being. The Whitsunday Neighbourhood Centre supports local people to become more active, confident and resilient, and forms an integral part of the social fabric of the Whitsunday community.

Our programs and services include: Family Support Program , Community Development Program, Emergency Relief Assistance, Scallywags Child Care Centre, Be Connected seniors computer lessons, Food Rescue through Secondbite and Ozharvest, My Time Parent Support Group, Legal Aid Outreach Centre, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Group, Community Furniture Shed & Op Shop, Form Fill and Resume Writing Assistance and Justice of the Peace signing site.

Outreach for: Feros Care, Northern Australia Primary Health Limited, Mylestones Employment, Lives Lived Well, Domestic Violence Resource Service Mackay region, Drug Arm, Ozcare and The Beach Film Society. Other activities include: Senior Bingo, Pilates, Line Dancing, Strings Whitsunday, Social Connection groups, Quilting, Whitsunday Gamers, Breathing Workshops lessons and Church Groups (Several Denominations).
